Neighbors for Deborah Ruddock

Letter from Joe Cotchett & Nanci Nishimura

October 8, 2026

Dear Ocean Colony Friends and Neighbors,

As you know, we have a very important election coming up on November 3 for our local and national issues. On the local front, we have three seats open on the City Council.

Half Moon Bay faces some difficult issues, and this year is especially true given the economy, affordability, and schools. We have a strong and caring community that volunteers at our schools, the Pumpkin Festival, and the Boys & Girls Club. We love walking on the Coastal Trail. We take pride in making our historic downtown Half Moon Bay more attractive and vibrant.

There is no person more qualified in District 4 than Deborah Ruddock. Under her leadership, Half Moon Bay has built and is building more affordable housing and ranks #2 on a per capita basis in San Mateo County. The city is on track to meet its state obligations, especially for our farm workers.

Debbie is a fiscal hawk who was re-elected to clean up the Beechwood mess and has consistently put the City’s financial and the public’s interests first. She has gotten the city back on a sound financial footing. She worked for more than 20 years as an analyst for the California State Coastal Commission and her work focused on coastal land use, public funding, habitat protection, public access and bringing together state agencies, local governments, and community interests.

Locally, she led Measure A, Measure D and updates to our Local Coastal Land Use Plans. Her work has curtailed sprawl, protected broad ocean views and shaped the Coastal Trail we all love.

We are asking you to join us in voting for her reelection to City Council this November. With great respect for all our neighbors.

Sincerely,
Joe Cotchett & Nanci Nishimura
